I’m one of those “church kids” that grew up going to church every time the doors were opened. My dad was an elder in the church. My mom was one of the church secretaries. My best friend growing up was the preacher’s son. I’ve seen the good, the bad, and the ugly in church and when I was in High School about the last thing I wanted to do was work in a church. I had big dreams and being a pastor definitely didn’t fit in with those dreams!
The summer of my senior year of High School, while at a youth convention very far away from my home in Clearwater, FL, God decided to do what He does best. He showed up in a big way and let me know that He had bigger plans for my life. God had a plan for me that involved not just going to church but His plan involved being a pastor in a church! I knew He had to be kidding.
Well, obviously God wasn’t kidding. His plan has taken me across the country and around the globe and over the years I have learned some incredible lessons about the dreams God has for his church.
Growing up I assumed that Christianity was just about following the rules, staying away from “bad stuff” and going to heaven when you died. Oh, how I missed the mark!
Over the years I’ve learned that following Jesus isn’t simply about what happens at the end of life, it’s about life right now. Following Jesus isn’t about rules, it’s about relationship. Being a disciple of Jesus is the greatest adventure there is and it’s an adventure that leads to Real Life Change.
When my wife and I came to Northwest in 2013, I brought with me a desire to help as many people as possible understand and experience this type of adventure. Real Life Change is not a destination. It’s a journey and I am so thankful to be on this journey with a ton of people I really care about and love. We thank God all the time for allowing us to come here and we know that the best is yet to come!
Real Life Change is about a direction. It’s about drawing closer to Christ. It’s about so much more than what happens when life is over. It’s about how to really live in the here and now. I am excited about the journey that is ahead of us andI can’t wait to see what happens!
