HIStory of NWCC
In the early 1960’s, several families living in Marietta worshipped in Christian churches in other areas. After meeting and discussing the possibility of establishing a Christian church in Marietta, steps were taken to make it a reality. The first formal worship service of East Marietta Christian Church was conducted May 16, 1963 with twelve present. The church met in homes at first and then moved to its Holt Road location in 1967.
As time passed, the church leaders realized they could not grow or expand on the small lot next to Wheeler High School, so in 1994 they sold the property to Cobb County Schools. Our former church building is now part of Wheeler High School, but the original faceted-glass windows were taken with us and now grace our new worship center.
At this point, the leadership realized God was leading them to move northwest where much of the new growth was happening, so they formally changed the name of the church to Northwest Christian Church and began a long and winding road through temporary facilities on their way to the northwest corner of Cobb County.
The groundbreaking for our current campus was October 24, 2004 and on December 17, 2006 we had our first worship service in the new building. In the years since, God has opened so many opportunities to reach out to the people in Cobb, Bartow, and Paulding counties and we continue to see new people almost every week come to know Christ for the first time. It has been a long journey that was difficult at times, but we have seen God’s hand sustaining us every step of the way and we praise him for the amazing work he continues to do through the people of Northwest Christian Church. We look forward to what God has in store for us further down the road in our journey with Him.
