Gethsemane: The Prayer Ministry of NWCC

Our Purpose

What is the purpose of the ministry team?  To pray for NWCC, individual members, our community, our country; organize prayer events; encourage members to pray consistently; teach about importance of prayer/make it personalized & meaningful.

Our Goal

Our goal is to make NWCC into a HOUSE OF PRAYER!  “for my house will be called a house of prayer…” Isaiah 56:7

To do this, we focus on two areas: 1) PRAYER RIGHT NOW – engaging in regular intercession for our church members, leaders, ministries, youth, visitors, and those outside our walls; and 2) EDUCATION/RECRUITMENT – teaching & modeling effective, sincere prayer to our church family & to our community, holding events & training to encourage a lifestyle of prayer.

What do the members do?  Have a heart for prayer and develop a lifestyle of consistent, focused prayer; be faithful in interceding & encouraging those who request our prayers; lead sub-groups on the team; hold responsibilities in planning & execution of team initiatives.

Meeting Details

The PRAYER ROOM is now room #139 in the Fellowship Hall, open 8-10:00 a.m. every Sunday – join us!

GAP (God Answers Prayers) prayer meetings are held every Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the Bridal Suite. Everyone is invited.

What roles are available in the Prayer Ministry?  We have room for the entire church to plug in – there is no limit!

  • Prayer Warrior: Prays regularly, encourages those being prayed for with periodic calls/e-mails.  This should include everyone on the ministry team.  Some will be given special, long-term prayer assignments & provide updates for the team.
  • Prayer Visitor: Prayer warrior who also visits hospitals or homes to pray with people during times of concern.  A rotation could be set up, or we could assign needs by location or availability.
  • Planning Team: Meets regularly to plan events/initiatives, offer ideas, pray together.  Everyone in the prayer ministry is welcome to attend.
  • Event Chairperson: Takes the lead in coordinating the details for a certain prayer-related event.  This could be a different person for each event.
  • Event Service Team: Serves at prayer events in various capacities as needed.  This can include a different combination of people for each event.
  • Graphics/Creative: Individuals with good computer graphic & written communication skills - to create bulletin inserts, flyers, slides, and other promotion or event materials as needed.  This role can be shared by multiple people, or responsibilities can rotate as people are able to help.
  • Prayer Room Guard: Prays each Sunday in the prayer room during services for those serving & involved in worship, and for decisions for Christ. 
  • Prayer Chaplains: Available after services to pray with those who request, and also at church events.  Scheduled in a rotation.
