Meet Ron Mobley, Senior Minister

Ron Mobley, Senior Minister (Pastor) at Northwest Christian Church in Acworth, GA
Family?

Been married to Dee for a long time.  (We were 9 when we married, which is OK since we are both from Kentucky!)  We have 4 great kids and 3 awful ones…just kidding.  Our kids are all great kids: 3 sons and 1 daughter.  We also have 3 wonderful grandkids and another nearing arrival (scheduled to be a grandson)!

Ministry/ Professional background?

I was ordained to Christian ministry in 1970, graduated with honors from college and seminary (Cincinnati Christian University), attended a couple of other universities (with additional classroom work completed for a master’s degree in English lit.)  We ministered in Cincinnati (OH), Lexington, KY and Ft. Myers and Boca Raton, FL before coming to Georgia, and what is now the Northwest Christian Church, in June, 1989.

Favorite book/music/TV show/movie?

I have lots of favorite books, music and movies.  I don’t watch enough TV to have a favorite, but I do enjoy watching sporting events, historical material, etc. With movies I am a huge fan of John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart, and I like Tom Hanks, Russell Crowe among others, today.  My musical tastes run the gamut from Bing to Buble, the Mills Brothers to Michael W. Smith, GF Handel to the Gaithers.  I am a voracious reader and it is always fun for me to re-visit Middle Earth (Tolkien) and Hogwarts (JK Rowling).  I am constantly reading the WORD of God and find real satisfaction in books and magazines on biblical archaeology and other biblical topics (for fun and for study purposes).

What do you like to do for fun/in your spare time?

I really enjoy spending as much time as possible with Dee, our family and friends.  We enjoy “antiquing”—or haunting antique shops anyway.  I enjoy book and coin collecting, as well.  Movie watching and reading are fun for me.  While I was once into sports I have “retired” most sports activities due to aching back, knees and other parts of my body—not due to aging!

What do you like best about working at NWCC/what brought you here?

What brought us here was a growing area that had plenty of religious groups and churches, but appeared short on truly biblical Christianity.  We believe the Lord led us here and the Lord keeps us here, and that his Word continues to convince people that he is the Way, the Truth and the Life (John 14:6).

What is your philosophy of ministry/why do you do what you do/what are you passionate about in your ministry?

My “philosophy of ministry,” is as basic as the Word of God itself: God loves us, has revealed himself to us, and wants us share his Answer to life’s questions, challenges and problems.  That “answer” is Jesus Christ, who makes God’s will plain and do-able.  The Church was established by Jesus Christ, so he is the Head, not me or anyone else.  He established his Church in order to convey the Truth of God’s love into the culture and the world of which we are part.  We strive to be his church and we seek to connect those who are open and searching for the Truth with the Answer God provided.  Whether we choose to be “re-born” through Jesus is an issue of eternal consequence.  So, I am really passionate about NWCC doing whatever we can to get the Truth “out there” and help as many people as possible to see God as he really is, not what so many “religions” have made him into.
